X-Japan and Hikaru Utada are among the big names in the J-Pop and J-Rock music industry. But if you mention the name of Gackt (read: GAKUTO ガクト) among the fans of this genre, they will surely say Gackt is one of the talented and respected legendary singers in Japan.

Apparently Gackt now no longer lives in Japan but instead made Kuala Lumpur a home. There are various factors why he currently resides in Malaysia among them because of the cost of living much lower and has a real estate business in Malaysia, Gackt & Ikeda Asia Bridge Partnerz.
In an interview on 2017, Gackt admitted to have moved in Kuala Lumpur since 2012 and fell in love of first glance when it first took place in Malaysia. A variety of Malaysian food and friendly residents make themselves feel at home. He said nearly 60% of the time was living in Malaysia and the remaining 20% live in Japan.
"I worked non-stop in the last 30 years. So I started an adventure all over the world to create a memory. In all the great cities I went on, I fell in love the first look for Malaysia, " said Gackt.

In an interview with a Japanese TV station, Gackt acknowledged Malaysia to be much better in handling the COVID-19 crisis instead of Japan. He said although there was a Restricted Movement Order (PKP) in Malaysia, the atmosphere remained calm and controlled.
"Japan is actually a more dangerous. Japan takes easy. Another country looks at a Japanese slow action.
